Goal: At the end of this lesson, the student should be able to identify a bar line, and locate a measure of music. They should be aware that all measures of music are the same "size". And they should be able to count the beats "1 2 3 4" out loud as they play along to the teacher's beat. 

Metric: Ensure your student is saying "1 2 3 4" out loud as they play, even when reading the music for the first time. Students sometimes count the half notes in Men From Mars incorrectly as "1 2" instead of "3 4" because they are counting the number of beats instead of which beat of the measure is happening.
