Primer: Unit 02, Lesson 3

Rhythm: The Half Note

The Half Note, Counting Out Loud, Firm Fingertips, Ear Training

Goal: At the end of this lesson, the student should be able to identify a half note and its parts (open note head, stem), differentiate quarter notes from half notes by ear, and play half notes to a steady beat provided by the teacher.

Metric: Ensure your student is saying "1 -2" out loud while playing. Listen carefully to the release of each half note. Ensure that your student is holding each half note all the way through the end of the note and not releasing early.
